Cru Wine Events: A Look Back At Our 2023 Events So Far

ICONIC ST EMILION DINNER WITH CHÂTEAU ANGELUS

Earlier in March, we were thrilled to bring together several of our clients in London for an intimate dinner with the illustrious Château Angelus.

Château Angélus is one of the largest and most prestigious St-Émilion estates, owned by the de Boüard family who have made wine on the estate since 1782. Now under the direction of eighth generation Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, the estate continues to go from strength to strength, as she has continuously raised the profile of the estate and garnered an indestructible reputation along the way. Under Henri de Boüard’s stewardship, Angélus became the only St-Emilion property to be promoted from Grand Cru Classé to Premier Grand Cru Classé B (in 1996) and, finally, in 2012 to the coveted Premier Grand Cru Classé A until they withdrew from the classification last year.

With an exquisite menu courtesy of the wonderful team at Medlar in Chelsea, we were joined by Bong Grelat-Tram, Deputy Director of Representation at the Château to talk us through our fantastic line up.

Chateau Angelus is known for its rich and bold, Cabernet Franc dominate wines, with concentration and structure that allow them to evolve over the decades. Tasting through this line up was a pleasure and the top 2015 and 2010 vintages were absolute belters, but the supposedly “lesser” years of 2012 or 2014 showcased the level of skill of the winemakers and the quality of the terroir.

Full Line-up:

  • Champagne Henriot Brut Souverain, NV
  • Carillon d’Angelus 2015, 2012
  • Château Angelus 2015, 2014 (en magnum), 2010

HARLAN ESTATE: LEGENDARY CABERNET

This was a dinner we were incredibly excited to hold for our clients, and boy were we spoilt! Since their inaugural vintage in 1990, they have consistently produced the most highly-rated wines in the US. After the release of the 100-point 1994 Harlan Estate Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend, which Robert Parker called “immortality in a glass” the wines, already produced in small quantities, releasing only 2,000 cases each vintage, became extremely hard to find and now have a waiting list almost a decade long.

We were truly privileged to be joined in London by the estate’s director Francois Vignaud at Les 110 de Taillevent who provided an outstanding four-course meal to perfectly complement these incredible wines.

The Harlan family very kindly opened their cellar, which allowed us to showcase a vertical of five vintages of this extraordinary wine from the Oakville estate across the past three decades.

have opened their cellar and we are privileged to serve five vintages from the Oakville estate, giving you the rare opportunity to experience the wine’s incredible evolution in the bottle across the past three decades.

The entire room had trouble deciding on a wine of the night, with the 2019, 2012 and 1996 drinking beautifully, but it was the 2006 that was showstopping, we all stopped conversation and just savoured that first sip!
