The 2015 Troplong-Mondot has a backward nose, reticent and clearly not coming out to play for a few years. The palate is well balanced with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, fresh and very elegant with a touch of spice and white pepper toward the persistent finish. Is there just a smudge of warm alcohol here? Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

"Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Mondot has a nose of blackberry pie, blueberry tart and raisin cake with touches of fertile loam, black pepper, tar and truffles plus a waft of chargrill. Very full-bodied, big and rich, this is a bit of a bruiser with firm, chewy tannins and a very long, spicy finish."

Tasted blind. Light, fresh, simple nose. Grainy tannins and alcohol on the bitter end. (JR)
