Created from 100% Merlot, Bertinga’s 2016 Volta shot onto the international stage, seeing it ranked the “best Merlot tasted in Italy” by judges at Gambero Rosso’s 2020 Tre Bicchieri. Featuring the brooding traits of violet, blueberry and black olives, this represents a full-bodied, lip-smacking red, that draws on Merlot’s inky, seductive character. Its soils comprise the heavy limestone and rich clay that is so often associated with Chianti Classico. Established in 2015, but only making its first debut in 2020, Bertinga is an emerging Tuscan estate whose reputation is on the rise. Named “Best Emerging Producer” in the 2022 Guida Essenziale Vini d’Italia, the Tuscan winery has hit the ground running since its first vintage and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
