80-year-old vines in the middle towards Vosne. Their oldest vines. 100% new oak. Barrel sample " already racked from barrel to barrel. A lightly smoky rocky note at first, opening up to dark-red fruit. Smells deep and rich but not heavy. Just a little toasty spice and sweetness from the oak and the fruit. In the texture there's finesse to the paper-fine tannins. And mouth-watering freshness. Very direct, quite linear at the moment but well shaped and long. A contrast on the finish between fresh acidity and a very ripe dark-fruit aftertaste. Needs time to integrate. (JH)
