The 2019 Troplong Mondot is composed and beautifully-focused on the nose, well-defined with vivacious brambly red fruit suffused with minerals and black truffle shavings. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, finely proportioned, fresh yet without huge weight at the back end. This gives it a degree of elegance that is admirable. Charming and with long-term prospects. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

The 2019 Mondot derives from Merlot growing on newly acquired vineyards on Saint-A milion's limestone plateau that can't be included in the grand vin until the region's new classification is finalized. Offering up aromas of wild berries, rose petals and coniferous forest floor, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and succulent, with a supple, charming profile and a penetrating finish.

Mid to dark crimson. Fragrant and unforced. Very much new regime! Subtle. A sweet ink impression that almost submerges the (not inconsiderable) tannins. Another distinctive wine that gives the impression of extremely careful winemaking. Already delightful but I'm sure it will age well too.
