The 2023 Clos Haut-Peyraguey is captivating. Scents of apricot, spice, tangerine peel, honey, marzipan and passion fruit caress the palate. There's a greater focus on freshness these days, but Clos Haut-Peyraguey remains one of the more extroverted wines in Sauternes, as witnessed by its 164 grams of residual sugar. Some of that is surely a reflection of the year in this particular case. Even with its initial exuberance, the 2023 finishes with fine energy and tension.
