A relative newcomer, this domaine has been producing serious Burgundy only since the 1970s. Ever since then, they have been steadily acquiring top pieces of land to add to their portfolio of prime cote de nuits terrior. Bernard is recognised as one of the shrewdest winemakers on the Côte. His wines are superb – traditionally crafted and invariably requiring some years of bottle age before showing their full potential. With rapturous praise emanating especially from across the Atlantic, this is perhaps even more of a cult domaine than that of Bernard’s cousin Claude Dugat.

The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux is raised entirely in new wood and includes around 70% whole cluster fruit. It has a slight reduction on the nose that makes it difficult to pin down, whilst the palate displays good structure and sense of symmetry, dense but fresh with a grippy, quite assertive finish. This is very fine.

67% whole bunch. 100% new oak. (Petite Chapelle was still going through malolactic fermentation.) Dark crimson. Just a little reduced but lots of matter here and glossy fruit. Sweet start with a hint of gunpowder. Really quite explosive on the nose. Medium weight. Slightly drying on the end. Needs time.
