Damilano

Case Format: 3x75cl

Damilano winery built its success on this belief. The land is one of the most suitable in the world, a sanctuary for winemaking. Its history started in the 1800’s and the people are those who led it with enthusiasm and passion, from the Langhe hills to the most prestigious wine consuming tables in the world, where Damilano is recognized as one of the most appreciated wineries. The activity of the family dates back to 1890 when Giuseppe Borgogno, the great grand father of the current owners, began to harvest and vinify an MGA located in the municipality of Barolo (in the Langhe area). This municipality gives name to the homonymous wine – Barolo – A sacred place for global enology, historically.

James Suckling

Incredible, reserved ripeness and depth already evident on the nose after one whiff, offering plum, cedar, rose hip, sandalwood, and licorice. Full-bodied with superb depth of fruit and an abundance of polished tannins that give the wine poise and grace, even though it’s long and powerful. The quality of the tannins are exceptional. Sheer and refined. This comes from the center of Cannubi. Aged five years in Stockinger cask. Better after 2026.

Savoury, muscular, strong tar and redcurrant, sour cherry, dried herbs and walnut on the finish. Give this time in the glass to appreciate the amazing evolution; it needs a good 60 minutes before the roses and tobacco arrive. The charred oak impact remains dominant, but will soften further over the next few years, and this is a superb bottle of Barolo. Aged five years in Stockinger oak casks, then a further year in bottle before release. Daimalono is the largest owner of the excellent Cannubi cru, with just over 10ha.
