Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2015

Mouton Rothschild

Case Format: 12x75cl

Max score: 96.0

Le Petit Mouton Rothschild is the beautiful second wine from the Mouton Rothschild estate. An illustrious estate, with a fascinating history, Château Mouton-Rothschild has been making wine since Roman times. Under the management of the Rothschild family since 1853, it wasn’t until 1922 when Baron Philippe de Rothschild took the helm, that the estate transformed.

Le Petit Mouton Rothschild made its debut in the 1993 vintage. It’s made with grapes from younger vines in the First Growth vineyard, and is harvested, vinified and bottled with the same attention to detail as the grand vin. The result is a silky, soft and delicate wine, that will often contain flavours and aromas of blackberries, coffee and mocha.

The winner of the second wines in 2015 is unquestionably the 2015 Le Petit Mouton De Mouton Rothschild, which is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominated blend that includes 17% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Ripe, full-bodied, opulent and incredibly satisfying, with loads of crème de cassis, graphite, lead pencil and hints of tobacco, it has more depth and texture than most estate’s top wine.

Tasted blind. Glowing crimson. Sturdy and solid with hidden depths of savour. Dry but not drying finish. Really attractive wine. One of the most impressive vintages of this wine.
