Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2016

Ornellaia

Case Format: 6x75cl

Max score: 94.0

Tenuta dell’Ornellaia is a 91-hectare domaine (76 hectares of which are currently cultivated) created in 1981 by Marquis Lodovico Antinori, and is planted with typical Bordeaux varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot). Made in the same meticulous manner as the Grand Vin Ornellaia, the estates second wine Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is the ultimate cellar staple. With a mixture of marine, alluvial and volcanic soils, the grapes from each plot are fermented separately and then expertly blended. Coming highly recommended, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia marries the very essence of Bolgheri; approachability and a depth of flavour with proven ageing potential. A perfect insight to the one of the most iconic wineries in the world and loved by collectors and investors alike.

Appreciate the aromas of crushed stones and currants that follow through to a full body, velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Lots of dark-berry and walnut character in the aftertaste. Beautiful second wine of Ornellaia. Already very attractive, but better after 2022.

This is a fantastic interpretation from Bolgheri. The 2016 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dellOrnellaia is made with fruit from the same vineyard plots that go into the Bolgheri Superiore, only this is a second selection if you will. Generally speaking, fruit from the younger vines goes here. This wine gives us a very pretty glimpse of what we can expect of the high-end releases from this classic vintage. The fruit is rock solid, delineated, tonic and firm. The pleasure factor awarded here is very high thanks to the wines inner softness, silky tannins and soothing extract. The bouquet is seamless and pristine.
