Rich and dramatic, the sample I tasted of the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers (Domaine Louis Jadot) was a little marked by its élevage, a liberal application of toasty new oak mingling with its bouquet of sweet berry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and nicely balanced, I suspect it wasnt showing its best when I encountered it.

Cask sample. Very bright crimson. Very sweet nose – glacé cherries! Then much calmer on the palate. Real vivacity. Not remotely like Gevreys of old: much more flirtatious, sweet and earlier maturing. Firm, grainy tannins on the end. The first wine in this Jadot 2019 line-up of reds that seems to finish definitively dry (rather than sweet). An interesting wine that really holds one’s attention. Good level of acidity.
