Aldo Fiordelli
Almost brick-coloured in the glass, its full of dried prunes, fresh leather, coffee grounds and cigar box aromas, with some citrus vibrancy of cedar wood. Its very classic, with refreshing vibrancy on the palate and creamy, silky, condensed tannins. Theres great balance overall and a super-polished, sophisticated aftertaste. This is not only one of the best Ornellaia vintages, but also one of the best Bolgheri reds ever made. Petit Verdot was not yet planted in Ornellaia. The blend in 1998 (60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc) were partially fermented in oak and the wine macerated for 20-25 days after the fermentation, followed by 18 months of ageing in 50% new French oak.

Dark crimson and healthy glow. Aromatic, almost Cabernet Franc-like aromas. Very fresh rather than big and warm. Still lively, fine tannins. Pretty wine for food.
