Rousseau’s 1988 Charmes-Chambertin was superb. Deeply expressive, it blossomed on the palate with endless layers of flavor, stunning balance, and a note of sweetness on the long, lingering finish.

A moderate ruby core. Quite light in hue. The nose is quite ripe, cranberry and wild strawberry but not complex. The palate is well balanced but has high acidity. Very primary with Morello cherry and cranberry. But at the finish it still has the complexity of a good village cru - hence the lowish mark. Drinking now. Tasted December 2003.

Ruby with a very pale rim. Very slightly sweaty nose but some really attractive rose aromas too and there is fresh fruit. Dry finish but good zappy fruit beforehand.
