Vivid ruby-red. Spice- and mineral-accented redcurrant, cherry, cured tobacco and candied rose on the highly perfumed nose. A juicy, sharply focused midweight offering lively red fruit and floral pastille flavors and earthy suggestions of chewing tobacco and succulent herbs. In a graceful, energetic style (due to the cool vintage, no doubt), with strong finishing cut, resonating floral character and velvety tannins coming in late to add shape and grip. A successful wine for the vintage, no question.

95% Tinto Fino, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Abnormally cool summer with frost on 24 September; harvest 6-17 October. Aged 14 months in large wooden vats following an 18-month ageing process in new wooden barrels, 8 months in used casks and 24 months in large-capacity wooden vats. 74,975 bottles, 3,107 magnums, 156 double magnums and 11 Impériales. From magnum.Blackish crimson. Sweet and glowing but the tannins are pretty present! Quite hard work at the moment. (JR)
