The 2015 Segla has a more tertiary nose, with brambly red fruit, freshly rolled tobacco and light graphite scents. This veers toward Pauillac in style. The palate is silky smooth, with fine-boned tannins. It's simple, fleshy and I appreciate the pepperiness on the aftertaste here. This was tasted blind at the 2015 Bordeaux Ten-Year-On tasting.

The 2015 Segla has a deep garnet core, lucid in the glass. The nose is quite backward for a deuxieme vin but gradually opens to reveal lovely blackberry and blueberry scents, just a hint of violet (there is no longer that flint-like scent I remarked upon out of barrel). The palate is medium-bodied with a plush and generous entry, very well balanced with a fine line of acidity, a vein of white pepper emerging during the second half that leaves a spicy residue after the wine has departed. On a budget? Looking for a second wine? Look no further (reprise).

Tasted blind. Fairly pale. Life and freshness and appeal. Transparent. Rather ahead of its time in its 21st-century mode. Even if a bit simple on the end. Convincing undertow. (JR)
