85% Tempranillo, 5% Garnacha, 5% Graciano, 5% Mazuelo from CVNE's own vineyards known as Caballeros, Toma´s and Sarnamoros, which are all located in Rioja Alta in the villages of Rodezno, Villalba and Haro. The soils are mainly chalky clay at an elevation of 500–600 m. The vines are 20–25 years old and all grapes are hand-harvested. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless-steel vats at controlled temperatures with regular de´lestage and pigeage. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in both French and American oak barrels for 24 months. The wine is clarified naturally, bottled and then cellared for 12 months before being released. Winemaker Maria Larrea. TA 5.3, pH 3.64, RS 2.2 g/l. Available in 111 stores. Magnum. Transparent garnet. Classic vanilla-oaky nose but nicely integrated with tobacco-leaf fruit. Great balance. Not heavy. Light dusty tannins. Dry but not drying finish. Good vintage. Really useful for large parties.
