CRITIC REVIEWS

The 2016 Barolo is a very pretty and expressive wine. Crushed red berry, mint, cinnamon and a touch of orange zest grace this mid-weight, super-expressive Barolo from Borgogno. All the elements are so well balanced. This is very nicely done.

The Borgogno 2016 Barolo wears a light and delicate fabric with a lacework of detailed and subtle aromas. Nothing is too big or too bold in this wine that adopts a genuine and traditional approach to Nebbiolo. Indeed, it could be criticized for coming in so far under the intensity threshold, especially for a classic vintage such as this. Soft cherry and cassis segue to spice, smoke, rusty nail and licorice. The wine should flesh out with more cellaring.

Pale, maturing ruby. A tiny bit sweaty and reduced, with concentrated cherry fruit underneath and increasing in depth with aeration. Already some development but pretty, all the same. Hints of tar. Also on the palate, some evolution, while the sappy cherry fruit is carried by lots of finely ground tannins. Very long and already approachable. (WS)
