The 2018 Barolo Villero comes across as light and lacking in body, with modest depth and complexity for this cru. The 2018 is nicely balanced, with pretty aromatics, but the flavors and textures just aren't fully developed. On the plus side, the typically potent young Villero tannin are also dialed down. It' a wine that plays at volume of 3 rather than 8 or 9. Ultimately, the 2018 feels hollow.

Castiglione Falletto. Just mid crimson. Lots of concentration on the nose but at the same time extremely fine and minerally and yet still holding back a little. Pure raspberry. Dramatic! Raspberry and cherry fruit with fantastic, animating acidity and fine, long tannins accentuating the fruit and adding even more depth. (WS)
