The 2019 Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno turned out beautifully. This explosive, old-school Barolo packs a serious punch. Gravel, black cherry, menthol, lavender and crushed rocks literally stain the palate. Full-bodied and deep, with tons of virile, brooding intensity, the San Lorenzo is a winner. Readers will have to be patient, though.

Verduno. Lustrous mid ruby. More depth on the nose than the straight Verduno from the same vintage and with layered complexity. Ripe and yet fresh, with plenty of succulent cherry on the palate and lots of attractive, chewy tannins. Great depth of fruit on the finish. (WS)
