The 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has more fruit concentration on the nose than Henri Boillot's Clos Vougeot, with smudged redcurrant and raspberry fruit, sous-bois and light leather scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. There is a little sharpness here, and this is a bit compact and peppery toward the finish-evidence of some whole bunch fruit. Give it another two or three years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Aromas of cassis, orange rind, plums, incense and loamy soil preface the 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, muscular and concentrated wine that's deep and youthfully structured, standing out as one of the blockier, more introverted wines in a very suave portfolio from Drouhin. This is a fine proposition for the long haul.

Two parcels, one close to the tower and one at the bottom which they keep separate for quite a while. In hot, dry years such as 2019 and 2020 the bottom bit does very well because it retains moisture. 20% bought in. Final blend in tank, to be bottled by mid February 2021. Refined, high-toned nose with a meaty undertow. Then a notably sweet palate attack and quite chunky and forceful. Some whole-bunch influence. Clearly a grand cru. Still youthful with a lightly spicy nose. Lots of energy.
