The 2019 Barolo Cicala is classic Cicala. Bright acids and insistent tannins drive through a core of vibrant red-toned fruit, orange peel, anise, slate, chalk and white pepper. Brilliant and energetic, with tons of focus the Cicala is striking in 2019. I admire its chiseled, nervy personality. All the elements are so well balanced.

Monforte d Alba. Mid ruby. Very sweet, seductive fruit on the nose leads into quite a marked tannic palate, despite the apparently featherlight body which belies the alcohol level! Dry char on the end but no heat. This should make great old bones but isn t ready yet. (JR)
