The 2020 Pinot Noir Kotinga is a vibrant and sappy single vineyard cuvee planted on a free-draining gravelly site, that was purchased by Ata Rangi in 2014 and converted to organic. Light on its feet, it has a real sense of energy and vibrancy, moving along the palate with purpose. Tension and texture are an integral part of this wine, which was aged in foudre (2280 liters) in a bid to allow the brightness of this wine to shine, according to its winemaker. You can expect pure, red fruits, dried herbs, tea leaf and well-judged oak-derived spices on the medium-length finish.

Tasted blind. Mid garnet, beautiful nose that gives stemmy complexity, like freshly crushed herbs. Redcurrant, rhubarb, raspberry. Stylised and stylish with an earthy note and a moderate but complex persistence that shows off some herbaceous flair. (RH)
