CRITIC REVIEWS

The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru comes across as a little oaky on the nose, with touches of vanilla extract, dried honey, and, later, a mote of powdery chalk. The palate is smooth on the entry, fresh and crisp with lime, orange rind and light mango notes. Oddly, it reminds me of a South African Chardonnay, a good one at that. Maybe it just misses a bit of Burgundian DNA? This is perplexing after such a great showing in barrel - I'll seek to retaste this. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
