The 2021 Barolo Margheria is dense, powerful and rather somber. Black fruit, lavender, espresso and gravel add to an impression of gravitas. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2021 is an infant. Muscular tannins make themselves known on the finish. This feels a bit raw and not totally put together yet.

Serralunga d Alba. Lustrous mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Compact and still closed on the nose. Polished deep raspberry fruit with Amarena-cherry notes with a hint of herbs. Still intense with youthful sweet fruit and well-balanced. The tannins are laid out like a mosaic on the finish. Very long Amarena-cherry finish. Far from ready. (WS)
