CRITIC REVIEWS

The 2021 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru is strict with wet pavement and green apple/pear scents on the nose, though it does open with time in the glass. The palate is fresh on the entry, yet this is somehow conservative and does not really exploit the potential of this 1er Cru. Played it safe? Then again, there is a lovely creamy finish with a dash of spice that urges you back for more. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Pale lemon. Apple, citrus, pear, peach. Sudden concentration and greater richness. Fine, brisk acidity gives definition (although the acidity seems less piercing and crystalline than in 2020). Ripe, almost dramatic in its intensity with a firm, saline finish. Very fine. (MH)
