The 2022 Labegorce has a more backward and introspective bouquet with earthy black fruit, tea leaves and bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, very classical in style and austere compared to other Margaux wines, with a very understated finish, which is possibly why I scored it lower. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.Deep crimson. Dark fruit layered with stone dust. Powerfully tannic, the fruit well hidden at the core. Extremely dry and grippy at the moment but should bloom in later life. (JH)
