Raised in Stockinger demi-muids, the 2023 Saint Véran La Fournaise, from 50-year-old vines, has quite a noticeable reduction on the nose but there is plenty of minerally citrus fruit tucked in underneath. The palate is well balanced with fine weight but perhaps not quite as complex as the Les Montchanins cuvée, without quite the same nervosité on the finish. Still, this is a lovely Saint-Véran that might benefit from two or three years in bottle.

Delicate and captivating aroma of grapefruit and lime citrus and a creamy overlay (fermented in foudre and long lees ageing). Rounded and generous in the mouth, lightish in body yet balanced. Good depth and length at this price. (JH)
