Medium ruby-red. Sappy aromas of blueberry, black cherry and licorice, with some suggestions of surmaturite Suave and silky on entry, then rich and rather elegant in the middle, with dark berry flavors showing a restrained sweetness. This stylish La Lagune opens out nicely toward the back, finishing with building tannins, some toasty oak and very good length.

A soft, easygoing wine, the 2003 La Lagune displays lots of balsam wood, black cherry and earthy notes. Dark ruby-colored with a pink rim, it is a lively, fresh Haut-Medoc with some acidity in the background. The tannins are totally resolved and the wine is medium-bodied. Drink it over the next 5-8 years.

Deepish garnet. Dried fruit notes and leafy too. A bit tough. (JH)
