The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes had been recently bottled. Matured in 20% new oak with 30% whole bunch, it has an impressive, energetic, animated bouquet that leaps from the glass with red cherries and crushed strawberry infused with mineral/flint. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine, supple tannin. There is a candied element to this Combottes, pretty and almost sorbet fresh with hints of blood orange and brown spice lending complexity and charm on the finish. This is one of Cyprien Arlaud s finest Combottes to date. Tasted at Flint Wines Arlaud retrospective.

"The 2016 Gevrey Chambertin, matured in 10% new oak, has a gentle bouquet that feels timid at first, then gains confidence to offer raspberry coulis and crushed strawberry scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin, not as structured as the Morey-Saint-Denis, prioritizing precision on the finish. This should drink well for several years."
