2016 Domaine Henri Gouges, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, Les Saints-Georges 6x75cl

Founded in 1919 by Henri Gouges, the Domaine is undoubtedly one of Nuits-Saint-Georges’s finest and most famous. Henri helped shape the appellation and cru tier system as we know it today and was the first Burgundian to bottle his own wine at the Domaine, which played a significant role in combatting fraud in the 20s and 30s, by guaranteeing provenance. Today the Domaine is run by his grandchildren, cousins Antoine and Gregory, who have refined the style to add a little more finesse and early drinkability to the classic power and structure that these wines are known and loved for. It is the only Premier Cru that the estate exploits on the North part of the appellation. This 46 ares parcel deploys at the bottom of the hillside on grassed soils, made of clay, limestone, and alluvium coming from Combe de la Serrée. This terroir produces wines that are known for their subtlety and delicacy.
