The 2019 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with mainly red berry fruit intermixed with clove and white pepper. There is something a little Rhone-like about the fruit profile. The palate is well-balanced and less tannic than recent vintage, with moderate grip. It is slightly savory in style, and I'm seeking a little more brightness on the finish. This is one where I prefer the 2018 by direct comparison.

Cask sample. Mid crimson. Heady, strongly perfumed. A wine that's really quite difficult to spit for although it's awfully sweet, there's a heck of a lot going on. Layers and energy. Rich but not sickly. Really very powerful. I wonder how much alcohol there is here? Good balance between fruit and freshness with an undertow of rather bolder tannins than in most 2019 red burgundies.
