The 2020 Giscours has a fabulous bouquet. It's very complex and well-defined, with blackberry, bilberry and hints of blueberry and violets. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins and fine grip, quite edgy and tensile. Lightly spiced with a precise and persistent finish, this is a seriously impressive follow-up to the '19 that will vie for supremacy.

A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot, the 2020 Giscours reveals a deep garnet-purple color and compelling notes of crushed redcurrants, plum preserves and Morello cherries, leading to hints of lavender, wild sage, damp soil and black truffles with a touch of licorice. The medium-bodied palate bursts with vibrant red and black fruits and lots of savory accents, supported by soft, very well managed tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing on a lingering fragrant earth note.

Tasted blind. Black core with purplish rim. Dark and savoury, slightly charry, on the nose. Masses of pure black fruit. Sweeter in the mouth, a bit sweet-sour, flowingly gentle on the palate and scented. Gentle and fragrant at the same time. (JH)
