The 2023 Soutard turned out well. Rose petal, lavender, blood orange and dark raspberry open first. Elegant and lifted, with gorgeous precision, Soutard is just as expressive as it was last year. Vibrant mineral notes extend the long, brilliant finish. This is such a pretty, elegant wine.

The 2023 Soutard is likely to rival or even surpass the brilliant 2022. Offering up aromas of mulberries, raspberries and plums mingled with hints of violet, licorice and spice, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a dense and seamless core of vibrant, perfumed fruit and a long, mineral finish. As restructured parcels return to production, Soutard is increasingly emerging as one of Saint-Émilion's finest estates.

57% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Malbec.Deepest crimson. Invitingly rich in black fruit with a lift of red fruit from the Cab Franc. Open and expressive even in youth. Chewy, deep and yet fresh. Firm, dry tannins that are in harmony with the fruit and freshness. A complete wine with depth and length. (JH)
